Tension As Police Shoot Protesting Youths In Kaduna


Armed policemen have been reportedly shooting with live bullets youths majorly from Gbagyi in Kaduna state.

According to the Leadership, some of the youths were shot but there are no confirmations as to whether any of them is dead. The youths are currently embarked on a road blockade to protest the appointment of Hajiya Hadiza Yahuza as interim chairman of Chikun local government of the state.

They blocked the roads leading to the local government’s headquarters thereby causing heavy snarl-up depriving road users from passing through to their various destinations. The tension has also led to armed policemen applying tear-gas to dissipate the protesting youths. Although, the policemen were able to chase the youths out but it is unfathomableif the protesters would return to continue the formal declaration of object.
However, the state governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai will be swearing in the Interim Management Committees (IMC) today, Monday July 6, 2015.
In line with the current protest, the youth had on Thursday protested to the state House of Assembly against the appointment of the chairman before the screening and confirmation which was to be the next day, Friday. However, they requested that their own be appointed instead.
Meanwhile, parents who were visiting their children at King’s College recently were unfortunately locked out of the school premises by the school authority.
