IGP, stop this ill-treatment

Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase

The latest trend whereby policemen are following in their so-called bid to carry out investigative patrol is a pitiless step that should be stopped.
Of recent, I heard that some policemen arrest young men with tattoos and wanted to remove the tattoos by pressing hot iron on those body parts. The source said that although he did not have a tattoo on his body, but it is ruthless to carry out such an act on some innocent citizen. I almost thought our policemen have stopped taking bribes until a policeman accosted us on my way to Lagos last week and asked if there was anything for the “boys”. Are they no more the ones to defend us?
The Police Service Commission should intensify its efforts by overseeing disciplinary actions of the police so that they would not hurt the ones they are to protect. By Joseph Damilola Adejumo
