It was gathered that a neighbor blew the whistle on the man when she heard the repeated cries of the girl who was in agony during the incident.
She immediately drew the attention of the girl’s mother (the wife of the accused) to the development. After examining the daughter and ascertaining that the child was abused, the mother reported the matter to the police, who effected his arrest.
It was reported that the man was caught in the act, after repeatedly abusing his daughter whenever his wife was away at work.
The prosecuting police officer, Hyacinth Gbakun, told the court that the action of the man contravened Section 91 of the Penal Code and the laws of Benue State. No plea was taken for want of jurisdiction as the prosecuting officer requested for adjournment to enable the police carry out further investigation into the matter.
In her ruling, presiding judge, Cecilia Bakare, who adjourned the case to September 29, 2015 for further mention, ordered that the accused be remanded in prison custody.
