It was gathered that the embassy gave preferential treatment to former Vice President Namadi Sambo and his entourage of 15 family members over that of President Muhammadu Buhari’s family.
Both families arrived for the lesser Hajj (Umrah) in the Holy City.
The Umrah is performed by Muslim faithful from all over the world who converge in Mecca to perform a series of worship activities symbolising the lives of Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and his second wife, Hajara.
However, a protocol officer and vehicles from the embassy were attached to the former vice president and his family.
An embassy source revealed claimed that Buhari’s wife had travelled to Saudi Arabia via Emirate Airline instead of the presidential jet.
She reportedly sought alternative accommodation by herself at own expense, to accommodate her and her children.
A source further revealed that the Consular-General, Ahmed Umar, is still loyal to the former government on the ground that Sambo was the one behind his ambassadorial appointment. The source added that even the two-bedroom apartment allotted to the president’s family was a resultof the efforts of the Ambassador, Alhaji Abubakar Bunu, and not the Consular-General.
