Fear in Patani as gunmen invasion leads to abduction


PATANI – EXACTLY three weeks after the release of three staff of a construction company working in Patani Local Government Area of Delta State, gunmen on Monday at about 3:45pm, stormed Patani community and abducted a woman at a building construction site.
The woman identified as Mrs. Benaibi Keboh, was abducted at the building site along Agoloma Road by an unspecified number of gunmen who fled with their victim through a creek in the community.
Meanwhile, there was palpable fear at the Patani Asphalt Production site of SETRACO Construction company in charge of the East-West road as expatriates and staff of the company, ran for cover while the shooting last.
Denouncing the abduction and calling for the release of the victim, a resident of the community, Mr. Doutimi Fiepre and a former chairman of Patani council, Dr. Chris Ekiyor while lamenting the activities of the gunmen, called for the immediate release of Mrs Keboh and the need to keep the town safe.
Recounting how the incident occurred, Doutimi said, “She had barely arrived the site when the gunmen who it appeared where monitoring her movement stormed the site and abducted her amidst sporadic gunshots.”
Confirming the incident in an SMS, the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Celestina Kalu said: “Yes it is true but efforts are on to rescue her.”
